On the second day of my trip, I visited Makapu'u Lookout, situated just off Kalanianaole Highway on Oahu's southeastern tip. The viewpoint offers stunning vistas overlooking Makapu'u Beach Park, the sea cliffs, as well as Rabbit Island (also known as Manana Island) and Kaohikaipu Island. Opting to go there for sunrise seemed like a splendid idea. After a brief hike to gain some elevation, I scouted for an intriguing composition. I captured several images before sunrise and during the golden hours. To achieve a smooth ocean appearance, I utilized a neutral density (ND) filter to lengthen my shutter speed. I particularly admired how the light illuminated the mountains, creating a striking contrast between highlights and shadows. The dynamic shoreline served as a captivating leading line, drawing the eye towards the clouds. It was a truly enchanting morning to witness and document from my perspective.
